The suggestion of one of
our regular visitors to name "Meine Oma" in order for children
and grandchildren to either give a suitable rose as a lovely gift or to
plant a rose in remembrance was taken up by us with enthusiasm. The rose
selected had to have the charm of the old roses and all the modern
expectations of vigor, health and continious flowering. A rose we had on
trial from the Danish rose breeders, Poulsen, fitted the requirements
admirably. "My Granny" is spreading shrub covered with lush
green foliage and blooms of the lovely full rosette form of yesterday’s
roses. The colour is a pleasing clear pink. Basal stems soon start to
form large clusters of blooms, which with their weight, will make them
arch gracefully. New flowering stems are added and soon a "rose
hump" about 1m high and 2m wide is formed. The flowering branches
will cascade admirably when planted in a tub or budded on a high
standard stem.
